Appointment of 250 Participants: SANParks Tourism Safety Monitor Programme

The Department of Tourism invites applications for 250 positions in the SANParks Tourism Monitors Programme, which will run for seven (7) months. This initiative is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and aims to provide participants with both theoretical training and hands-on experience in tourism safety. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Selected participants will be contracted for 7 months and placed at tourism sites or national parks near their places of residence. Applicants are advised to only apply for positions in their local areas. The programme offers a daily stipend of R200.00.

-Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
-Kruger National Park
-Mapungubwe National Park
-Mokala National Park
-Mountain Zebra National Park

Eligibility Criteria:
-Must be a South African citizen (with certified copy of ID).
-Must be unemployed and aged 18–35 years.
-Must have a matric certificate or equivalent.
-Must be fluent in English and literate.
-Tertiary qualifications in tourism or environmental studies are an added advantage.
-Must reside within 40–100 km of the site applied for (proof of residence required).
-Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
-Should have a genuine interest in the tourism sector.
-Must have reliable personal transport to the work location.
-Accommodation may be provided at certain sites, depending on distance from park gates.

Fitness & Selection Process:
-Shortlisted candidates may need to pass a fitness assessment (e.g., a 2.4 km run, 25 pushups, and 25 sit-ups within a time limit).
-Successful candidates will proceed to interviews and be subject to medical and criminal checks.

-Only one learner per household is allowed.
Affidavits will not be accepted as proof of residence.
-Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you don’t hear back within 3 months of the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
-The Department reserves the right to cancel or postpone the programme at any stage.
