About the Role
The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is seeking dedicated, community-minded individuals to serve as Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCVs). These positions play a vital role in protecting the rights of inmates, ensuring fair treatment, and monitoring conditions inside correctional facilities.
ICCVs work within correctional centres to engage with inmates, handle complaints, and report on the state of incarceration. This is a community-focused position ideal for someone with a strong sense of justice, integrity, and willingness to speak up for human rights.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
- Computer literacy and accuracy in work.
- A written recommendation or nomination as an ICCV from a community organisation (issued within the last 6 months) – this must be attached to your application.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Public-spirited, with knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
- Assertive and able to work under pressure.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A valid driver’s licence is an added advantage.
- Important: Preference will be given to applicants residing in communities near the correctional centre where the vacancy exists.

Key Duties
- Visit the assigned correctional facility daily.
- Engage with inmates and Department of Correctional Services (DCS) officials about complaints and other concerns.
- Monitor prison conditions and report findings.
- Report any deaths, segregation, mechanical restraints, or use of force within the facility.
- Assist JICS officials during inspections and investigations.
- Manage administrative tasks such as capturing inmate complaints, processing mandatory matters, and writing detailed reports.
