The Gauteng Department of Education’s Directorate of Examinations Management is calling for applications from dedicated, detail-oriented, and organised individuals to join the team for the 2025 examination cycle. With 294 positions for Examination Assistants and 951 positions for Quality Assurers, this is an excellent opportunity for students, unemployed graduates, and suitably qualified individuals to gain valuable work experience in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Available Positions & Locations
- Examination Assistants (x294) will be placed at District Offices and Head Office across Gauteng. Positions are available in regions including Gauteng North, Gauteng West, Tshwane North, Tshwane South, Gauteng East, Ekurhuleni North, Sedibeng East, Sedibeng West, Johannesburg East, Johannesburg North, Johannesburg South, Johannesburg Central, Johannesburg West, Tshwane West, and Ekurhuleni South.
- Quality Assurers (x951) will be stationed at designated marking centres such as Alberton High School, Allen Glen High School, Hoërskool Garsfontein, Nokuthula Special School, Parktown Boys High, Queens High, Rand Girls High, UJ Metropolitan High, and many more across the province.
Package & Duration
Remuneration will be in line with the Personnel Administrative Measures (PAM) rates applicable for these temporary roles. Employment is linked to the examination marking period and script processing cycle.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum Qualification: Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate / NSC Vocational.
- Must be a registered tertiary student, an unemployed person with at least one tertiary qualification, or an unemployed graduate.
- Numerical skills are essential, with Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level.
- Second-year and higher tertiary students will have an added advantage.
- Prior experience as an Examination Assistant or Quality Assurer (district office, marking centre, or office-based) will be beneficial.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Note: Individuals writing the 2025 National Senior Certificate/Senior Certificate/AET examinations, those who have taken a Voluntary Severance Package (VSP), or anyone employed elsewhere are not eligible to apply.
Key Duties
Examination Assistants:
- Receive, check, control, scan, and pack scripts for marking.
- Ensure the correct number of scripts and marksheets per batch, subject, and paper.
- Address discrepancies in batches and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare marking centre files and assist in dispatching scripts.
- Archive scripts for easy retrieval after marking.
Quality Assurers:
- Control, distribute, and scan scripts during the marking process.
- Check that all questions are marked, marks are totalled correctly, and transferred to marksheets accurately.
- Resolve marking discrepancies with the marking teams.
- Reconcile and archive scripts in correct numerical order.
