About the Position

The successful candidate will join the hospitality team at Agulhas National Park and report directly to the Duty Manager. This is not just a cleaning role—it is a frontline position that directly impacts the comfort and satisfaction of visitors from around the world. As the southernmost tip of Africa, Agulhas attracts thousands of tourists annually, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service is central to ensuring a positive guest experience.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for this post:

  • A Grade 12 certificate (Matric) or NCV level 4 (or equivalent).
  • Between 1–2 years of relevant experience in cleaning, hospitality, or a tourism-related environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with using cleaning tools and equipment correctly and safely.
  • Customer service skills, with the ability to interact courteously and professionally with guests.
  • Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays, and shifts, in line with the hospitality industry’s operational needs.
  • Knowledge of First Aid will be an added advantage.

Core Responsibilities

The Room Attendant will be responsible for ensuring that chalets, guest facilities, and public areas within the park meet the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing cleaning duties such as making beds, vacuuming, mopping floors, polishing furniture, and removing waste.
  • Cleaning public areas including restrooms, reception areas, and walkways.
  • Reporting any abnormalities such as damages, spillages, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Monitoring and controlling stock items such as guest amenities, cleaning supplies, and linen.
  • Reporting maintenance issues promptly in accordance with park procedures.
  • Upholding service quality standards and participating in improvement initiatives.
  • Responding courteously to guest needs and ensuring their comfort.
  • Handling lost and found items responsibly and in line with SANParks procedures.
  • Assisting with laundry duties such as collecting, sorting, and storing linen.
  • Adhering strictly to health and safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning chemicals.

This position requires excellent organizational skills, as the successful applicant will need to prioritize daily tasks effectively to ensure that housekeeping duties are completed efficiently.

Remuneration and Benefits

The position is graded at Paterson A3 level and offers a total cost-to-company remuneration package. This includes allowances and benefits as specified in the SANParks Human Resources Tariff Document and Conditions of Service.
