Minimum Requirements:
Applicants should meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for this role:
- A Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant and previous experience in a food service environment; at least 1 year of work experience is required.
- Experience in large-scale cooking is advantageous.
- Knowledge of hygiene, cleaning, and safety procedures is essential.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, including early and late shifts as well as public holidays.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Must be reliable, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining high standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
The Cleaner position at the Department of Health encompasses a range of duties crucial to the smooth operation of the Food Service Unit. Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Routine Cleaning Tasks:
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards by washing floors, equipment, utensils, pots, and pans.
- Clean fridges, freezers, storage areas, drains, grids, and other parts of the unit to ensure safety and hygiene.
- Properly manage waste by taking out dustbins and sanitizing them regularly.
- Food Service Preparation:
- Assist in unpacking and packing provisions into fridges, freezers, and storage areas.
- Support the preparation of patient meals, including both normal and special diets, ensuring meals meet set standards and guidelines.
- Help with meal presentation, particularly for special functions or hospital events.
- Serve patient meals according to established procedures, maintaining hygiene and portion control.
- Equipment and Machinery Operation:
- Safely operate food service machinery and equipment, ensuring proper usage and maintenance.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness and efficiency of all kitchen and service equipment.
- Team Support and Flexibility:
- Rotate and serve as a reliever in different sections of the unit to provide flexibility and coverage during peak periods or staff absences.
- Participate actively in shift rotations, adapting to early, late, and public holiday schedules as required.
