The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development is looking for two (2) Food Service Aids to join their Pretoria offices — one in the Office of the Minister and one in the Office of the Deputy Minister.

These positions are perfect for individuals who enjoy working in a team, take pride in maintaining cleanliness, and want to contribute to a professional government environment.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that meetings, boardrooms, and food preparation areas are kept clean, safe, and ready for use — helping to keep daily operations running smoothly.


🔸 Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 10 Certificate or Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) qualification.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Basic food service and hygiene principles.
  • Basic cleaning and housekeeping knowledge.
  • Good communication (verbal and written).
  • Customer service and professional presentation.
  • Ability to follow safety and hygiene rules.
  • Must be honest, reliable, and able to work under pressure.

Personal Attributes:

  • Friendly and adaptable.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work independently and confidently.
  • Willing to work long hours when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity at all times.

🔸 Key Duties & Responsibilities

As a Food Service Aid, you’ll assist with food preparation, cleaning, and general support in the office’s food service areas. Your duties will include:

🍴 Food Service and Preparation

  • Serve food and beverages during meetings and special events.
  • Set up and clear boardrooms before and after meetings.
  • Arrange water, snacks, and meals for employees and guests.
  • Retrieve used dishes and utensils after meetings.

🧹 Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Wash dishes, microwaves, fridges, and utensils.
  • Keep the kitchen, boardroom, and food preparation areas clean and tidy.
  • Sweep and mop floors when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment at all times.

⚙️ Safety and Reporting

  • Follow hygiene and safety guidelines in the food service area.
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Report broken or damaged equipment immediately.
  • Support the team in maintaining a safe workspace for all.
