🌟 Introduction

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is a vital non-profit organisation dedicated to saving lives through the collection, testing, and distribution of safe blood and blood products. SANBS is currently seeking a dedicated and reliable Driver to join its Constantia Kloof team in Roodepoort. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that goods and passengers are transported safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively — all while maintaining the high standards and values that SANBS upholds.

If you are a responsible and safety-conscious individual with strong attention to detail, this could be the perfect opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a national cause.

🚦 Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report to the Dispatch Controller and be responsible for a range of transport-related duties designed to keep operations running smoothly.

1️⃣ Pre-Trip Procedures

Before hitting the road, the driver will perform a full vehicle inspection according to the SANBS Vehicle Inspection Checklist. Any irregularities must be reported immediately to the Dispatch Controller. The driver will also receive a Trip Instruction Sheet, confirm details, and ensure all necessary documentation and equipment — including name tags and delivery sheets — are in order. Proper handling and secure loading of blood products or other transported goods are a key part of this stage, as well as maintaining a fully completed trip sheet and ensuring sufficient fuel levels for the planned journey.

2️⃣ Transportation of Goods

Once on the road, the driver must adhere to all SANBS transport regulations and the National Road Traffic Act. Deliveries must be completed within the specified timelines, and any deviations must be reported and documented. The driver will handle all goods with care and professionalism, ensuring that every delivery is acknowledged with a signed trip sheet and delivery note. Maintaining SANBS’s positive image through courteous and professional conduct is essential.
After each trip, the driver will return completed documentation, perform a closing inspection with the Dispatch Controller, and ensure all logbook details are accurately recorded.

3️⃣ Transportation of Passengers

In some cases, the role will include the transportation of passengers. The driver must confirm all passenger details and travel arrangements with the Dispatch Controller and, when necessary, collect petty cash for parking fees (especially for airport pickups). Upon arrival, the driver will welcome passengers warmly, assist them with directions, and represent SANBS with professionalism. Safety, punctuality, and courtesy are top priorities at all times. The driver will complete a Customer Service Assessment Form after each trip and ensure that no unauthorized passengers are ever transported in company vehicles.

4️⃣ Administrative and Support Duties

In addition to transportation responsibilities, the driver will provide general administrative support. This includes answering transport department calls, relaying messages, cleaning vehicles, and promptly reporting any accidents or incidents to both the Dispatch Controller and the police (with case number).
For technical drivers operating in certain zones, additional duties such as assisting with clinic preparation and unpacking hampers may also apply. These extra responsibilities ensure that operational support continues even when general assistants are unavailable.
