If you’re passionate about making a real, visible difference in your community, this opportunity might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for. A compelling and meaningful position has opened for a Donor Recruiter, a role that sits at the heart of ensuring a safe and sustainable blood supply for South Africa. This position goes far beyond traditional marketing—it blends education, public engagement, customer service, and lifesaving impact into one dynamic job.

The Donor Recruiter will be responsible for recruiting and educating donors, supporting local blood drives, and ensuring that collection targets are met. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the donor experience, strengthening community involvement, and helping to maintain a stable blood supply for patients in need across the country. If you’re someone who thrives in a people-centered environment, this is your chance to be part of something that genuinely changes lives.

🌟 What the Role Involves

The Donor Recruiter position is structured around three main key performance areas: Customer Stakeholder Engagement, Internal Processes, and Learning & Growth.

1️⃣ Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

You’ll be at the frontline of donor interaction, ensuring that every individual who visits a blood drive is supported, informed, and valued. Some key tasks include:

  • Taking part in donor recruitment pilot studies at various blood drives.
  • Addressing donor questions, queries, or complaints, with follow-ups coordinated alongside the Donor Relations Practitioner.
  • Providing feedback to internal teams about community needs, such as additional talks or donor education sessions.
  • Assisting with planning and coordinating marketing-related functions like donor awards, media launches, or community appreciation events.

This part of the job is ideal for someone who enjoys talking to people, reading the room, and engaging with diverse groups. You’re essentially the bridge connecting donors to the organization and helping build a strong, supportive donor base.

2️⃣ Internal Processes & Blood Drive Support

This is where the operational magic happens. You’ll help ensure that every blood drive runs smoothly by handling key logistical and on-site tasks, such as:

  • Delivering promotional materials—posters, flyers, banners—before each blood drive.
  • Confirming blood drive arrangements with controllers and peer promoters ahead of time.
  • Helping secure alternative venues if the provided space is not suitable.
  • Setting up directional signage and displays to increase visibility and encourage walk-ins.
  • Recruiting and educating donors on-site to meet collection targets.
  • Highlighting important safety and risk behaviour information to ensure a safe blood supply.
  • Welcoming donors, making them feel respected and comfortable, and explaining donation steps clearly.
  • Monitoring donor flow and reducing waiting times in collaboration with the clinic supervisor.
  • Providing refreshments, answering service questions, and offering general support.
  • Setting up and packing down events, ensuring every venue is returned to its original condition.
  • Participating in local branch promotions, exhibitions, and community events.

This part of the role is perfect for someone energetic and organized—someone who enjoys fast-paced environments and loves helping people feel at ease.

3️⃣ Learning, Reporting & Professional Growth

To stay efficient and up to date, the Donor Recruiter also takes on responsibilities involving ongoing learning and reporting. These include:

  • Submitting weekly recruitment reports with suggestions for improving donor turnout and event performance.
  • Keeping personal files updated and ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are understood and applied.
  • Attending necessary meetings and training sessions to stay aligned with industry changes and enhance knowledge-sharing within the team.

This ensures you’re always growing in your role and staying informed about the latest developments related to donor recruitment and public engagement.

To qualify for this role, applicants need:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • A Marketing or Public Relations Certificate (minimum 6 months)
  • A valid Code B manual driver’s licence

No prior experience is required, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to start a career in community engagement, health-sector marketing, or donor relations.
