As a Driver at SANBS, you will play a critical role in the efficient transportation of goods, blood products, and passengers, ensuring that life-saving resources reach their destination safely and on time. Key Responsibilities:
The Driver position at SANBS is much more than simply operating a vehicle. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of tasks across transportation, administration, and customer service. Key areas of responsibility include:
1. Pre-Trip Procedures:
Before setting off, drivers are required to complete a full vehicle inspection using the SANBS Vehicle Inspection Checklist. Any irregularities must be reported to the Dispatch Controller or relevant supervisors in the zones. Drivers must also collect trip instructions, ensure fuel levels are adequate, secure products such as blood units for transport, and complete trip sheets and logbooks accurately. Wearing a SANBS name tag at all times and maintaining proper documentation is essential for safety and accountability.
2. Transportation of Goods:
Drivers will handle the collection and delivery of goods to various destinations, ensuring recipients acknowledge receipt. Strict adherence to SANBS rules, as well as the National Road Traffic Act, is expected. Drivers must maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times, completing trip sheets and returning keys and documentation to the Dispatch Controller at the end of each journey. Deviations from approved routes or unauthorized transport of goods are strictly prohibited.
3. Transportation of Passengers (Applicable to Certain Drivers):
Drivers assigned to passenger transport must ensure smooth and safe transit of clients, including international passengers when necessary. Duties include confirming transport details with the Dispatch Controller, welcoming passengers professionally, and ensuring they reach their destinations safely. Drivers must complete all logbooks and customer service assessment forms accurately.
4. Administrative and Support Duties:
Beyond driving, SANBS drivers are expected to perform various administrative and support tasks. This may include answering calls, relaying messages, cleaning vehicles, reporting accidents or incidents promptly, and performing preparatory duties for clinics when required. Technical drivers in specific zones may also assist with unpacking hampers from blood banks or other logistical support duties in the absence of general assistants.

Minimum Requirements:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Minimum Grade 9 (Grade 12 preferred)
- Licensing: Code C1 driver’s license with Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Experience: At least 3 years of driving experience
- Skills: Fluency in English and excellent driving record
- Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Driver Course
