17 Unarmed Environmental Monitors

Description:

There are presently openings for 17 unarmed environmental monitors to work in different locations of Table Mountain National Park. The aforementioned roles are subject to a fixed-term agreement that expires in March 2025.

The entire compensation package consists of a base wage of R208.00 per day, as set by the Expanded Public Works Programme.

The chosen applicant will be responsible for arranging their own lodging, as the Park does not offer official housing.

Requirements:

    • Grade 12/Matric/NCV level 4
    • aged eighteen to thirty-five
    • ability to communicate in both English and any other local language
    • Local applicants from nearby communities will be given preference.
    • Park (in a 40-kilometer radius)
    • Unblemished Criminal History
    • Basic proficiency with computers (MS Word, Excel)
    • completing a fitness trial and passing it, depending on the activities involved in deployment.
    • 2.4 km run in under 12 minutes
    • Capacity to complete 30 pushups and 30 situps in less than 60 seconds
    • Those that pass are then invited for an interview.
    • A medical practitioner will evaluate the candidate’s medical fitness if they are accepted.
    • Ability to work occasional overtime on weekends and public holidays

Responsibilities:

  • Help in the management of natural resources, such as implementing and overseeing programs involving native and invasive plants and animals, addressing soil erosion, and developing rehabilitation management techniques.
  • Assist in the tracking and documentation of in-field data and resource management.
  • Help the EPWP contracting teams monitor the status, caliber, and standard of their work.
  • Help with mapping, species identification, density estimations, and on-site verifications.
  • help with asset and stock management.
  • General administration: filing, filling up logbooks, timesheets, and reports, etc.
  • Help in evaluating all standards and processes and making sure the appropriate contractors are following them.
  • Help with People and Conservation projects and programs, as well as offering Park neighbors extension services, such as environmental education.
  • Help with the upkeep of the infrastructure, cars, tools, and equipment.
  • Regular foot and vehicle patrols, enforcement of environmental laws and regulations inside Park boundaries, control over visitor behavior and incident reporting, information interpretation and distribution, and more.
  • help with the overall upkeep of the park’s terrain and infrastructure
  • Help with fire management, which includes putting out prescribed fires, controlling wildfires, and securing the park’s perimeter against fire.
