Requirements :

  • Grade  12/ a NQF level 4 qualification
  • work experience of one year in community development.
  • Proficiency in the following areas: community development, public involvement, ward borders, social awareness, community education, and community activation/mobilization;
  • familiarity with laws and policies of the government, such as the Batho Pele Principles,
  • Active citizenship, managing citizen relationships, community-based planning, and comprehension of ward-based stakeholders;
  • Candidates should be familiar with the dynamics, language, and culture of the target community and should live in the ward for which the position is posted;
  • Having a current driver’s license will be even more advantageous.

Duties :

  • Analyze needs and resources by engaging with and consulting with the community;
  • Observe and document noteworthy patterns in health, social development, and livelihood security within communities, together with the results of relevant development initiatives;
  • assemble precise environmental scans;
  • Determine and provide accurate records and data on the homes, cases that have been referred, and service locations that have been visited to the Assistant Director in accordance with the established work plans and performance contracts;
  • Create and keep an electronic or hard copy database detailing any interventions, such as system modifications to enhance service delivery, remedial actions taken, or referrals;
  • Report on the difficulties and results that escalated;
  • submit performance reports to the Assistant Director on a daily and weekly basis within the stated timeframes;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all pertinent laws and rules by conducting routine research;
  • For information on services and opportunities, consult and engage with the Gateway electronic portal as well as other information sources like Government Online;
  • Organize frequent information-sharing meetings with various stakeholders, institutions, and community workers;
  • Establish networks with government agencies and departments as well as other players in community development to obtain pertinent data;
  • support the development of intergovernmental cooperation;
  • Communicate with stakeholders and the community to enhance the development and delivery of services;
  • Connect with several departments’ current programs as well as those of community workers and practitioners;
  • Engage in the scheduled public engagement programs (such as Ntirhisano, Ward Committees, Feedback Meetings, and IDP);
  • collaborate with government agencies to make plans that take community needs and assets into account;
  • Take part in ward-based planning structures to carry out government initiatives, and provide updates on how well ward-based plans are working;
  • Encourage people, groups, and institutions to take part in localized democratic processes;
  • Utilize the ABCD approach to start community-led development;
  • Start and assist the process of community asset profiling.
  • Determine the assets in the community and classify them based on the level of support needed;
  • Determine the assistance needed for the current local initiatives and programs on sustainable community development and keep an eye on them;
  • submit a status report on the socioeconomic initiatives you’ve started and backed;
  • Inform the authorities and CoGTA of any anomalies and developments;
  • Inform communities about services provided by governmental agencies and other relevant parties in order to promote sustainable development;
  • Notify the authorities of issues, patterns, and early warning signs of community unrest.
