Department Description

HEALTH RESEARCH UNIT COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMME FACILITATORS MRC/WITS DEVELOPMENTAL PATHWAYS This position will be based in Soweto at the SAMRC/Wits Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit (DPHRU), which is part of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. To assist young people with their mental health, we are beginning a new implementation study.

Brief Description

People are needed to fill the position of Program Facilitators, which is akin to a Community Health Worker. Due to the delicate nature of some of the subjects handled, the position needs candidates to have a professional work ethic. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills, be personable, and be at ease managing intervention activities. Candidates should also be interested about empowering and assisting young people in making wise decisions regarding their mental health. Candidates ought to be excellent examples of wholesome behavior. The chosen candidate will be stationed at the DPHRU facility in Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

General Responsibilities:

Participate in the training necessary to implement the program.
Have telephone and in-person meetings with the participants.

Requirements:

be between the ages of 22 and 35, whether they are male or female.

possess a matric diploma and post-matric training (e.g. certificate, diploma).
Must be eager to work in the Soweto neighborhood (and be able to travel to Soweto, if not resident in Soweto).
Must be ready to work from Tuesday through Saturday.
