Security Officers X20

Purpose

The employee is accountable to his or her supervisor for the ongoing security of faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as the safety of university buildings and the maintenance and security of university property.

Brief Description

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Patrolling on foot and by car.
• Building inspections (looking for any threats of any kind, signs of fire, criminality, and malfunctioning lights, for example).
• Locked and unlocking offices and buildings
• Verifying the operation of security alarms (i.e. activated and de-activated)
• Reacting to warnings and crises in accordance with the established protocol
• Regular reporting to the supervisor and the counterparts
• Guiding employees and students around and between campuses
• Staffing fixed positions (exit points, residences, and libraries)
• Completing access control tasks as directed
• Do access control tasks in accordance with the established process
• Do any one of the necessary “expert” tasks, or more if necessary (e.g. manning the central office or driving)
• Help guests by pointing them in the right directions
• Take part in training exercises, a parade, and other events.
• Carry out any additional duties or responsibilities that the supervisor deems necessary to fulfill the department’s overall function.
• Work shifts as directed by your superiors.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) is required.
• Having a certificate or degree from a comparable profession after Grade 12 might be useful
• PSIRA certification is necessary
• Security Guard/Patrol industry experience is required
• A current driver’s license is required
• First aid or firefighting certification would be useful.
• Effective verbal and written communication abilities
• Zero criminal history
